Evan Wright is an emerging composer and performer based in Sacramento, California. In the fall of 2025, he will begin the PhD program in Composition at the University of California, Davis, continuing his pursuit of a creative and academic career in music. He recently completed a double major in Music Theory & Composition and Jazz Performance at Sacramento State University, where he developed a distinctive voice shaped by both classical and jazz traditions.
Evan’s compositions explore the intersection of tradition and innovation, using contemporary techniques to reshape familiar forms and create emotionally complex musical narratives. His work reflects a deep curiosity and a commitment to pushing stylistic boundaries while maintaining a strong connection to his roots in jazz and classical music.
As a performer, Evan leads his own jazz quartet and collaborates widely as a sideman throughout the Sacramento area. His versatility and sensitivity as a musician have made him a valued contributor to the local jazz community.
Evan is also dedicated to music education, teaching both privately and in classroom settings. He is passionate about guiding beginning musicians and fostering a love for music in the next generation.
When he's not making music, Evan enjoys traveling and challenging himself in online chess matches. Whether on stage, in the classroom, or with his saxophone, Evan Wright continues to grow as a creative force dedicated to expanding the language of music.
